I haven't travelled far in-game to see new sights, and was wondering what makes Accursed Lands "gothic"? :)

The creators all listen to The Cure while writing code...

But seriously...  It's the style and setting of the surroundings in game.  I think that the use of the word 'Gothic' when describing the tone of the game's theme is meant to relate to the dark realism, and indeed the medieval setting of the MUD.  From the ol' Dictionary:

2. (usually initial capital letter) pertaining to or designating the style of painting, sculpture, etc., produced between the 13th and 15th centuries, esp. in northern Europe, characterized by a tendency toward realism and interest in detail.

5. (usually initial capital letter) pertaining to the Middle Ages; medieval.

6. (sometimes initial capital letter) barbarous or crude.

Edit:

Another nice definition:

Of or relating to a style of fiction that emphasizes the grotesque, mysterious, and desolate.

Grotesque, mysterious and desolate sounds like AL alright :P

In my opinion AL is very medieval but not very gothic. Or just not very goth, which ever one. -chuckles-
